In Korea, since June 2023 a "standardized age law" has been in effect, so all legal and administrative ages are now counted as your international age (the age used worldwide). - International age — You start at 0 on the day you are born and add 1 with every birthday. This is the official, legal age and the one used worldwide.
- Year age — Current year minus birth year. Some laws (such as military service and youth-protection rules) use this method.
- Traditional Korean age — You are 1 the moment you are born, and everyone adds a year together on January 1. This is the older way still heard in everyday conversation.

To work it out by hand: if your birthday has already passed this year, your international age is (current year − birth year); if it hasn't passed yet, it's (current year − birth year − 1).
